One month of Kifl

(Also, follow me on Patreon and Bluesky?)

After it became clear that Facebook was going to comply eagerly with the Trump regime, I stopped posting personal updates and dog photos on the site (and on Instagram).

Instead, they go on Bluesky. You can see the full thread of Kifl photos from the start of 2025 there, but I thought I’d put the first month of them here too (that’s as much as Threadsky included).

I was going to put them on my new Patreon page, but the images didn’t paste in. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Kifl is a LONG terrier: stretched all the way out on the sofa, except that her front paws are folded up on top of her.

Her belly, which is conspicuously available for rubbing, looks ridiculously pink under a thin covering of soft black fur.
Kifl again: this time looking very tired, wrapped around a unicorn cushion, her chin plopped down on it, her leg draped around its side.

Bonus Kifl from last night.

Kifl viewed from above her head, down her body. She is receiving bellyrubs.

Kifl of the morning to you.

Kifl is slumped on the sofa, resting her head on one leg. She is looking up at you, the viewer, as if wondering why it isn't breakfast time yet.

This evening’s Kifl.

Kifl is swathed in blankets, as if cosy as heck - but she looks oddly mournful.

Bonus Kifl from early last year.

My dog is very handsome.

Kifl, a dark-furred terrier, sleeps beautifully on the back of a sofa.

Afternoon Kifl.

You may like to know that her belly (which I am rubbing) smells of honey.

I have no idea why.

Kifl (who regular readers may already know is a smallish terrier-type dog, with mostly black fur but a brown moustache and a patch of white on her chest) lies on her back, paws folded ahead of her, gazing at the viewer.
Kifl, still lying on her back, is now pointing her nose towards the ceiling.

Yesterday Kifl did an exceptionally mighty yawn. Look at that tongue go!

Kifl lies on the back of the sofa, with one paw draped in front and the other folded neatly underneath. She is doing a big yawn in which her tongue, unconventionally, protrudes from the top right corner of her mouth.

I was mostly hoping for a photo like this, the weird tongue was an unexpected bonus…

Extreme dog-yawn. She could be singing opera.

There’s something ridiculously cute about the way Kifl rests her chin on things. Especially when it’s on me, and she just places it there with a tiny grunt and gazes up at me.

Kifl the wauzer rests her chin on the fluffy white blanket that's over my leg. Her moustache is unruly.

Kifl gets head-scritches from @scrappapertiger.bsky.social as a reward for sitting on the back of the sofa so neatly.

Kifl looks up at Sonny in loving bemusement, receiving her scritches without complaint.

Subsequently…

Still on the back of the sofa, Kifl is now lying on her back in optimum belly-rubbing posture (paws folded just below her face).

Her stomach is making squelching sounds (not pictured).

One of my favourite subgenres of stuff photography is pictures that are baffling until you work out what you’re looking at, but then you realised they’re really cute.

A rounded mass of dog fur. Somewhere towards the right, if you look closely, you can make out the toe-beans of two feet, almost wrapped around each other.

Kifl is receiving pre-breakfast bellyrubs.

Paws folded in front of her, Kifl looks happy to be receiving bellyrubs but also has a look that suggests she's waiting for word of food.

Just in case any was worried that Kifl might not be having her belly rubbed, here is an update.

Kifl looks dozy, and quite blurry except for her nose and moustache. She is having her belly rubbed, and looks pretty content about it.

She could, of course, have her belly rubbed MORE.

Kifl in a sort of L shape, her head to one side while all of her legs are up in the air.
Kifl on her side, legs still tentatively raised, belly still available. You know, for rubs. Just if you wanted to.

Kifl is sympathetic.

Kifl looks very soulful, with her chin and moustache resting on my leg, nestled between me and Sonny.

Kifl in her not-really-awake-yet, receptive-to-affection phase.

The dog is sprawling, hind legs and ear lying languorously, front paws folded, belly open.

Kifl is up now, and has Feelings. And Opinions.

She wants me to know about them, but she doesn’t speak English, so she is trying to convey them with an insistent groan, just shy of a growl, and a hard stare.

(Her breakfast time is still more than half an hour away, for reference.)

Front paws firmly planted. Head slightly cocked. Ears slumped low.

Kifl seems happy.

Nose in the air, sleepy mouth almost smiling, eyes closed, fur all over the place. A contented dog-nap.

Kifl doing her Stare of Snuggling.

The angle of Kifl's head and eyebrows compels you to make appreciative noises. It's very hard to explain in text. Imagine a small, hairy dog gazing into your soul and being glad.

Kifl this morning.

Cute dog receives bellyrubs.

Attention: Kifl has a carrot.

Kifl holds a toy carrot in her mouth.

It is a very large carrot for quite a small dog.

Kifl accepts hugging from @scrappapertiger.bsky.social.

Just about.

Sonny looks very content and loving. Kifl is looking over with an expression that may or may not say 'please help me'

Kifl receives her morning bellyrubs.

Kifl: upside down, receptive, very fluffy.

Kifl before and after a mention of what time it was (ten minutes early for her breakfast, but I fed her early as a reward for posing so nicely).

Kifl is seated attentively. Her ears are down.
Slightly more attentive, Kifl's ears are now raised an inch or so.

Kifl this morning.

Kifl-dog: diagonal, cuddly, expectant
More Kifl: coy, slightly frazzled, not ready for the bellyrubs to stop anytime soon. She has a case of bed-head that takes in her ears.

I don’t see how I can be expected to work under these conditions.

Kifl lifts her folded paws right up, to gaze past her wrist at us demurely.
Kifl looks the other way, because we've already got the message that her belly requires attention.
Kifl lies back blissfully to savour the bellyrubs.

There’s probably something else I was supposed to be doing, but I’m trying to prioritise sensibly here

Kifl just looks so happy
My fingers ruffle the long hair on Kifl's chest.

Kifl takes a short break from getting her belly rubbed.

The dog is still in optimum belly-rubbing posture: prone, angled towards is, legs up in the air, paws folded.

Kifl of the morning to you.

Kifl lies on her back in a curve, ears splayed, paws folded, a glint in her eye. It would be reasonable to assume she is awaiting her next bellyrubs.

Kifl offers a paw of gentle reassurance.

The dog is lying on her side, one ear up, one paw softly resting on my leg.

Kifl snuggles with a unicorn cushion.

You can't really tell it's a unicorn, but you might be able to make out a couple of nostrils. The dog is extra cute with her head resting on it, but I can't explain why.

She is looking straight at us, but lazily.

Oh no! I rubbed Kifl’s belly wrong!

Kifl is in classic bellyrub posture, but looking sideways at me, clearly shocked and aggrieved about something.

Kifl has a good stretch, mid-snuggle.

The dog is sprawled on her back, looking very hairy and very chilled. Her left paw is extended, but not fully, because she has just finished stretching but not retracted her leg.
